The dark frames around Josh’s paintings are beautiful but do darken the space even further.  I would leave them where they are and once the fireplace is moved to that space it will brighten it up.  If you put a floated shelf above the fireplace, mix it up a bit and put a few of Josh’s framed paintings on the shelf and leave some hanging on the wall.  You should choose a favourite family photo (with fur kids included!) with a light background and have it stretched onto an extra-large canvas and hang it behind your chair, swopping it for the mirror, or hang it on the expanse of empty wall above the sideboard table.  You could hang some fun lighting around it too (e.g. below).  Either or, the mirror or canvas will take up each space behind your desk and on the wall to the left of your desk.  Whatever everyone will be wearing in the photo could add a bit of colour to the room as well.
